Grant life-changing wishes

The origin of World Wish Day

A critical illness impacts the lives of a child as well as their families and other loved ones. By granting wishes of these children, we provide hope for both the critically ill children and their families.

This day is celebrated to recall the wish of a child named Christopher Greicius who was diagnosed with a life threatening illness and wished to become a police officer. Once a wish is granted, it brings great joy to the child and their family since a new hope is given to them. Having this experience can positively impact the emotional and physical well-being of a child living with a critical illness during the healing process. This is the main purpose of the celebration of World Wish Day.

Why World Wish Day is important

World Wish Day is important since it gives hope to critically ill children. This day helps children believe that their dreams can become reality. Hospitalizations and rigorous medical testing may make the child feel demotivated. By granting the wish of these children through your donations, it helps them regain their confidence in life. Then these children realize their wishes are important and can actually achieve anything that they want.

Make-A-Wish on World Wish Day

Make-A-Wish designs every wish according to the child’s dreams and aspirations. Make-A-Wish fulfills the wishes of these children by means of the unconditional support of donors and volunteers. The wish-granting process is a comprehensive journey. This journey enables the family of these children to create memories that last a lifetime and gain a positive outlook through hope and strength.

Change the lives of seriously ill children and donate today

Once a wish is granted, it is the teamwork of the volunteers and donors, and the Make-A-Wish team, that helps to give these children hope and confidence. No matter how big or small a donation may be, it contributes greatly towards granting the wish of these critically ill children. When you are donating, you are bringing confidence, joy, and unforgettable memories in the lives of these children. Donate today, and help us give hope to critically ill children by granting their wishes.

Grant life-changing wishes

What is World Wish Day?

Make-A-Wish commemorates its 40+ year legacy of granting wishes to critically ill children worldwide on World Wish Day. It is a day to celebrate the dedication and successful journey of Make-A-Wish, and its many volunteers and donors that have helped bring joy and courage into countless lives. On World Wish Day, people from all across the globe grant wishes and put smiles on the faces of eligible children who are living with critical illnesses.

When is World Wish Day?

World Wish Day is an event observed by the entire Make-A-Wish organization. This day commemorates the start of the work of Make-A-Wish, which changed the lives of over 550,000 children living with critical illnesses. World Wish Day is celebrated internationally on the 29th of April.

Why is World Wish day celebrated?

World Wish Day is celebrated in honor of the life-changing wishes granted. Each year the progress for the year is shared and the wishes keep growing. The day was chosen because it was the day the first wish was granted to Chris Greicuis, a boy living with leukemia who was full of life. Seeing his passion, Make-A-WIsh started to help other kids like him by granting their wishes.

Their wish day also gives kids living with a critical illness a chance to get out of the hospitals and live their lives like most kids their age. The organization has grown so much over the years, with each year bringing thousands of other kids into our wish family.

How does Make-A-Wish celebrate World Wish Day?

Today, the Make-A-Wish Affiliate’s are spread across 40 Affiliate countries around the world with every volunteer joining hands to grant the one true wish of every eligible child. Kids living with critical illnesses often spend the majority of their childhood behind hospital walls. Make-A-Wish gives them new joy and hope for the future. Newfound confidence and motivation may help them in their healing process.

Make-A-Wish volunteers around the world spread the news and collect donations to help grant many more wishes. There are many ways anyone can help with celebrating the event. If you know anyone around you who qualifies for a wish but is unaware of it, invite them to apply for their wish to be granted. Others can host charity events to raise funds for the cause. Together, we can help create a newfound strength within the wish community.

Another way to celebrate the day is to reflect on the stories of wish kids who have received their wishes already. Seeing the happiness and joy in the words of these kids brings motivation for the cause.

How can I celebrate World Wish Day?

There are so many ways you can make the day special right from where you live. Make-A-Wish has 40 Affiliates around the world as of now but we are always open to expanding our reach to more children who deserve wishes. If you live in a country where Make-A-Wish is active, you can help find more kids who are eligible to have their wishes granted.

However, if you live somewhere we haven’t reached yet, you can raise funds through fundraising events such as bake sales or concerts so we can continue to bring wishes to reality.
