A wish come true helps children feel stronger, more energetic, more willing and able to battle their life-threatening medical conditions. For many, the wish marks a turning point in the fight against their illnesses.
Hazel's story is just one example of the impact a wish can have.
Hazel contracted neurological encephalitis and went quickly from being an active teenager to a very sick child dealing with a debilitating and life-threatening medical condition. Hazel's wish was to meet the internationally recognized New Zealand fashion designer, Karen Walker. Make-A-Wish New Zealand granted this unique and life-changing wish for Hazel when she was 17.
Now, one year after her wish, Hazel talks about her journey and the impact that her wish has made -- a powerful story that demonstrates how powerful a wish can be for the well-being of our wish children.
This one belief – that a wish is life-changing – guides us in everything we do at Make-A-Wish. It inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve. It compels us to be creative in exceeding the expectations of every wish kid. It drives us to make our donated resources go as far as possible.
Most of all, it's the founding principle of our vision to grant the wish of every eligible child.
