I wish to publish my own storybook
Mi Ri, Age 7, Korea
Mi Ri is a seven-year-old girl whose younger sister, Na Yeon is her most cherished friend. When volunteers from the Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Korea visited Mi Ri, she showed them her drawings and stories that she had written about her sister and best friend, Na Yeon. Mi Ri told volunteers that she felt sorry that Na Yeon had to leave home to stay with their grandmother for a year while she had been undergoing treatment with their mother by her side. Even at this young age, Mi Ri wanted to show her sister gratitude for her understanding and selflessness during Mi Ri’s treatment. Mi Ri wanted her wish to be a symbol of her appreciation.
Mi Ri’s wish was to publish a book for her sister with her own drawings and story.
The story is titled Na Yeon of Cookie Land. In the book, Na Yeon is the princess of Cookie Land, where her favorite cookies are the best in the country. In the story, Na Yeon can eat all the cookies she wants and never gets too full or sick. All were touched by such a sweet and innocent story, written by the young seven-year-old Mi Ri as a token of thanks for her younger sister.
Na Yeon of Cookie Land was published by a well-known children’s book company as an in-kind donation. On her wish day, Mi Ri, along with sister Na Yeon, was dressed in a pink princess costume, and a big celebration with her family, friends and Make-A-Wish volunteers was held at a local restaurant. Mi Ri and Na Yeon were so happy and all those who participated applauded their warm sisterhood.
Two months after the wish day, Mi Ri’s mother wrote a letter to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Korea telling them that Mi Ri’s next wish was to be a Make-A-Wish volunteer! What a great way to share the power of a wish®!
