I wish to be James Bond

Harvey, Age 13, United Kingdom
The new James Bond Museum in the United Kingdom received a special guest on Sunday, 10 May 2009, in the form of James Bond ‘Junior’.

Thirteen-year-old Harvey Tye, who is living with Duchenne’s Muscular Dystrophy, asked Make-A-Wish Foundation® UK to grant his wish to be James Bond for the day. Make-A-Wish Foundation UK arranged for Harvey to have his own custom made tuxedo and to arrive at the museum in a stretch limousine, so Harvey certainly looked the part. Waiting to welcome “Mr. Bond' was his favorite villain, the Voodoo Man, Baron Samedi, who was played by museum employee, Mat Larkins, and one of Dr. No’s henchmen in the form of Dave Gaskell, a walking encyclopedia of James Bond trivia. Harvey enjoyed putting Dave’s knowledge of their shared hero to the test.

Harvey was given an 'all access pass’ to the James Bond museum with special permission to sit in every car and ride on every bike. Some of the exhibits are out of bounds, even to the staff, and are likely to have last been driven by Pierce Brosnan or one of the other 007 stars. Harvey was allowed to try on a cap and jacket worn by Sean Connery in the film ‘You Only Live Twice’ and was given the unique opportunity to hold Scaramanda's Golden Gun.

The highlight of Harvey’s wish day was when he and his family were whisked off on a top secret mission in an Aston Martin DB6. On their return, Harvey took some time to relax in the museum’s cinema before going home for a well earned rest. Harvey said “it was brilliant. This has been the best day of my life!”

Harvey’s father said "Harvey’s wish has exceeded all our expectations. It was fabulous. Make-A-Wish UK and the James Bond Museum have made Harvey feel so special."

Mat Larkins from the James Bond Museum said: “This has been one of the most poignant occasions of my life. I learned a lot about myself meeting Harvey today and feel enriched by it. It has been a privilege to help Make-A-Wish Foundation UK put a smile on such an amazing boy’s face.”
