I wish to see my step mom and my daddy have a wedding ceremony

Wang Soo, age 15, Korea

Wang Soo Kim is a fifteen-year-old boy who was diagnosed with leukemia two years ago. His biological mother divorced from his father when he was just eight-years-old and his step mom became a part of their family five years ago. His step mom, a loving and caring woman, has been taking care of Wang Soo and his younger sister ever since. Given that their family income is very limited, they have relied upon government financial assistance. Due to the economic difficulties, Wang Soo’s step mom and dad could not have a wedding ceremony.

Wang Soo is a shy and quiet boy who has never expressed his thankfulness toward his step mom, who was especially committed to taking care of him during his hospitalization. When Make-A-Wish Korea volunteers visited Wang Soo, he cautiously asked if his special wish could come true. His special wish was to prepare a wedding ceremony for his step mom and daddy. All staff was surprised and excited to grant this very unique wish. Coincidentally, Wang Soo’s wish was Make-A-Wish Korea’s 1,000th wish.

A limousine bus brought 40 family members and friends to Seoul for the wedding ceremony. A beautiful wedding dress and shining wedding bands were prepared for the couple. To make the ceremony special, Make-A-Wish Korea’s 900th wish child played a piano piece for their wedding march. After the ceremony, the couple was taken to the Grand Hyatt Hotel for their honeymoon.

During the ceremony, his teary-eyed step mom expressed her very special thanks to Wang Soo saying, “As a teenage boy, Wang Soo could have chosen many things to have or to do for his precious wish, but Wang Soo gave up all his wants for me. Also, I will not forget Make-A-Wish Korea for providing me with this once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Wang Soo told us “At first, I did not believe my wish could come true. It happened today. It was unbelievable, thanks to volunteers and Make-A-Wish Korea. I am so happy!”
