I wish to have a playhouse
Cassandra, age 4, Canada
“Imagine a young girl, four-years-old going to the park with her family. As she leaves the house, her eyes brighten and her smile widens. As she enters the sunshine, she expresses delight; it is clear that she loves being outside. Upon arriving at the park, this girl lies on a blanket and sings a song to her baby doll “beautiful baby love . . . ” This little girl is my daughter Cassandra; a loving and beautiful child who enjoys going outside more than anything else in the world. If I could take her outside every day, I would.
The story above is a true description of our trips to the park, but it is not the whole story. Add a wheel chair to the picture; and imagine that this little girl is pushed in her chair to the park and is followed by a nurse fully stocked with various medical supplies and equipment. At the park the girl sings to her doll, but her song is silent as it is beautifully performed in sign language. My daughter Cassandra was born with a rare genetic un-named condition; in fact we cannot find anyone in the world with the same condition as her. Over the last three and a half years, Cassandra has had heart surgery, three stomach surgeries and bowel surgery. She is unable to hear or speak and struggles with weak muscles and frequent seizures.
When we heard that Cassandra would qualify for a wish through Make-A-Wish® we were excited. We thought long and hard on what we thought Cassandra would wish for and in the end it was for a playhouse. Make-A-Wish Southern Alberta and Morrison Homes, along with their suppliers made Cassandra’s wish come true – a 150 sq foot playhouse!” - Cassandra’s Mother
