TAKE ME OUT TO THE BALLGAME 10-year-old Kazuma suffers from muscular dystrophy but he dreams of one day being able to run like his favorite baseball player, Norihiro Akahoshi. In response to his request to fulfill this dream, Make-A-Wish Japan arranged for Kazuma and his family to attend a Hanshin Tigers baseball game and meet Akahoshi in person.
NEW CORPORATE SUPPORTER Chicago-based Global Hyatt Corporation has announced a worldwide partnership with Make-A-Wish International. Continuing Hyatt’s longstanding commitment to making a difference and supporting the community, each Hyatt property will be empowered to generate in-kind or cash resources to support the cost of a child’s wish. The hotel will coordinate with its local Make-A-Wish office to develop strategies to grant one wish over the course of a year.
CHURCH OF DREAMS Christos, a 15-year-old boy suffering from acute leukemia, had already undergone three failed bone marrow transplants when Make-A-Wish volunteers came to visit his village in Greece. When asked about his greatest wish, he talked about a dream he had one night during his hospital stay. He had dreamt of a small, beautiful church, decorated with icons and flowers: “The Church of the Virgin Mary.” The image comforted Christos and reaffirmed his strong faith and religious beliefs. MAKE-A-WISH INTERNATIONAL ACCREDITED BY THE UNITED NATIONS The United Nation’s Department of Public Information has selected Make-A-Wish International to be associated with the UN as a Non-Governmental Organization.Through this association, Make-A-Wish will be able to select representatives to have access to the United Nations headquarters for select briefings, conferences and seminars.
