Grants and Development Writer

Make-A-Wish Foundation® International grants wishes to create hope and happiness to children with life-threatening illnesses around the world. The organization oversees a network of 30 Affiliates worldwide, outside of the United States, spanning Canada, Europe, Latin America, Asia and the South Pacific. In 2007 alone, 7,000 wishes were granted by Make-A-Wish Affiliates.

Our careful use of funding to promote our mission has earned us recognition as a stellar charity, including 4 out of 4 stars by Charity Navigator, a watchdog organisation that assesses charity spending. We also carry the Best in America seal for outstanding performance and financial accountability, and most recently, an association with the United Nations for our work with children worldwide.

The organization is currently seeking a part-time (15-20 hours per week) fundraising professional who will be responsible for foundation and corporate grant writing, including occasional corporate sponsorship proposals.

Reporting to the Director of International Marketing & Development, the Grants and Development Writer will research new funding sources, build relationships with foundations, coordinate an ongoing sequence of appropriate communication efforts with foundations, write grant proposals, manage all reporting and evaluation requirements, and coordinate that foundation funders are appropriately stewarded.

Requirements include: A Bachelor's degree preferably in Journalism, English or related field and a minimum of 4 years of non-profit/development experience with emphasis on grant writing. Exceptional writing skills and computer proficiency (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access and Microsoft Publisher) and strong analytical and reporting skills are also necessary. Salary will commensurate with experience.
